Case Study

Holcim Spain

Cantera “Isabel”, Monda, Spain

Objective

The creation of a visual screen.

To reforest with pines (2.5 metres high and 100kg each) to bundle the exploited areas into the natural environment of the site.

Context

The gravel site is located into the sheltered spot “Maldonado”, nearby the Natural Park “Sierra de las Nieves”, which is the reason why the restoration works were carried very carefully.

Solution

Works of hydro-seeding of native species with the aim of fixing the soil on the slopes in order to avoid landslide and to accelerate the restoration.

Creation of a visual screen to avoid the visual impact from the village of Monda.

In 2018, the project was still on-going.

Result

The result of the restoration is the conversion of a site, with a wall of 60-100 metres high, into a soft shape relief, using materials from winding.

Nowadays it is not possible to distinguish the restored areas from the Natural Park, since the vegetation has ripened and the lands were colonized by the native species.
